```{index} single: encodings (Encode) ``` ```{index} single: Encode::encodings ``` # encodings Return the list of encoding names the registry knows about. ## Synopsis ```perl my @all = Encode->encodings(); # class method - the documented form my @all = Encode->encodings(':all'); ``` Names are sorted case-insensitively and deduplicated; each canonical name appears exactly once regardless of how many aliases it has, and `Internal`, `Unicode` and `Guess` are excluded as upstream does. Use `resolve_alias` or `find_encoding` to turn any of these into a canonical name or an encoding object. Only the encodings currently LOADED are reported. An encoding becomes loaded the first time any of its names is resolved, and it arrives with the rest of its module: `find_encoding("cp1251")` takes the list from seven names to seventy-one, because it requires `Encode::Byte`. `:all` merges in everything still dormant; a module name merges in that module's share without loading it. ## Differences from upstream Fully compatible with upstream.
